Dear Friends and Family,
Today, I received a notification on Facebook reminding me about the day we started this website, exactly 4 years ago, shortly after Adam’s diagnosis; and so I felt compelled to do one more final update here. After reading that post, I burst into tears. I’m not sure why I was overcome with such emotion; perhaps a feeling of guilt and struggle that comes with parenting a toddler during the pandemic while also realizing I could have lost him 4 years ago. It’s hard to believe it’s already been 4 years since that devastating day, but every day in the smallest ways, I’m still reminded to be thankful for Adam’s continued health.
Many people have asked about his eye so I wanted to provide a quick update on that. Adam continues to have annual checkups with his ophthalmologist at Children’s, and his last update was on November 3, 2021. The doctor was very impressed by the vision in Adam’s left eye. He said it has improved remarkably. Adam is actually able to see something even up to 4 or 5 feet away, which probably helps with some 3D perception. This was so encouraging to hear! Even the doctor could not have predicted that his eye would have improved this much over the last 4 years. Thank you, Lord.
Also, on January 25, 2022, Adam had an abnormal-looking mole removed on his right arm, done as an outpatient procedure. He had his sutures removed today, and the biopsy confirmed that the mole was benign. Adam had developed several moles over the years and sometimes a side-effect of chemo is secondary cancer so we decided to have it checked out. We are continuing to monitor his skin but there appears to be no concern at this time. His annual MRI scans also continue to show no signs of cancer. In fact, Adam will no longer need to do any more scans from this point forward.
FINALLY, while we may not be shutting down this website, we will no longer be providing updates about Adam here. So if you’d like to continue keeping up with Adam’s progress or the life of the Dewey family, please find me (Hannah) on Facebook as Hannah Dewey, or follow me on Instagram, handle dewey_hannah.
Thank you again for your continued prayers for our family and for always asking to see how Adam is doing. We are eternally grateful for all the love, care, and support we’ve received all these years. May the Lord use Adam’s situation to gain us further, for His testimony on this earth.
“For I know that for me this will turn out to salvation through your petition and the bountiful supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 1:19)
What a lovely thing to hear about in these difficult times. I am especially happy about Adam’s eye. I will continue to pray for all of you. The children are a beautiful reflection of the two of you. Thank you for the good news.
